Sabah showcases amazing activitites to Australian meeting and incentive agents

April 1, 2009

Sabah Tourism Board, Pacific World Destination East Malaysia, Malaysia Airlines, Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts and DMS Destination Marketing Services recently hosted eight meeting and incentive planners from Sydney, Melbourne and Queensland on a familiarisation to Kota Kinabalu in Sabah, on the island of Borneo in Malaysia’s east.

In Sabah the group stayed at the magnificent Shangri-La Rasa Ria Resort and the Shangri-La Tanjung Aru Resort and Spa where they enjoyed the hotel’s personalised and friendly service and luxurious rooms overlooking the sea.

Pacific World and Sabah Tourism Board created an exciting itinerary of activities showcasing Sabah’s diverse cultural heritage, modern venues and amazing natural wonders. Highlights of the trip included a visit to the Orang-utan sanctuary during playful feeding time, an ‘Amazing Race’ style team-building day of batik painting, a mangrove and water village exploration, white water rafting, as well as a music-based activity “Beatworks”.

Sabah is an ideal team building and CSR program destination with many opportunities for companies to get involved with the local community or develop new skills. Fast establishing themselves as leaders in the destination in terms of their CSR program development, Pacific World have all the local contacts to ensure a meaningful and worthwhile program for your group.

During the trip, the group experienced a range of culinary delights in a variety of venues, including the spectacular Coast Restaurant at Shangri-la Rasa Ria and some of the other beach side venues at the two host Shangri-la hotels. Additionally the group were treated to a selection of excellent off-site venues including the stunning revolving restaurant @tmosphere, the Kampung Nelayan Seafood Restaurant, and the brand new Mari Mari Cultural Centre. This interactive venue, which only opened in December 2008 proved a hit with the group with its theming of a traditional tribal camp complete with fire torches, tribal characters and the opportunity to learn to use a blow pipe and get tribal temporary tattoos! A great option for a themed dinner for up to 80 pax.

Kota Kinabalu is surrounded by stunning islands and the group were also lucky enough to experience a day trip out to Mamutik Island just 10 minutes ride by speed boat, to see a local water village and snorkel through exotic fish and coral. Shangri-La hosted a BBQ lunch beachside complete with freshly caught local seafood.

Sabah offers many exciting and diverse activities for meeting and incentive groups of any budget and with the excellent support locally from the Sabah Tourism Board and Pacific World – you are assured of an exceptional program!
